On July 7 Daniel Cormier will be the 4th fighter in UFC’s heavyweight division to challenge Stipe Miocic who is already the division’s longest reigning champion with three successful title defenses. For Stipe it would be business as usual but for Daniel Cormier this is possibly one of the biggest moments of his professional mma career. This is only the third super fight in the entire UFC history ( after UFC 94 and UFC 205 ) and Daniel Cormier would only be the second fighter other than Connor McGregor to simultaneously become a two division champion. But for Daniel Cormier this fight goes beyond belts and ppv records. Its about moving past the only two losses in his entire mma career and both to the most badass fighter in the entire history of fight business, John Bone Jones.
Jones was undefeated at light heavy weight and between him and DC, they had cleaned the entire division. But Jones never fought at heavyweight and DC never lost at heavyweight. DC was the Strikeforce heavyweight champion and has wins over the likes of Frank Mir and Roy nelson in UFC. At 39 years of age DC is probably the oldest UFC champion both currently and historically. In one of his interviews he said that he would ideally like to retire at 40. which means he is probably looking at the last three fights of his career. That means he would be looking for the biggest opponents there are in the business today. And a win over Stipe would establish DC as the biggest name in the Heavyweight division and also earn him the title of the baddest man on the planet. But then as long as Jon Jones is alive no other man gets to be called that. Jones doesn’t need to have the UFC belt around his waste to be a badass. Jones was a born badass. And DC being the great guy that he is needs a win over Jones. DC doesn’t want to be the baddest man on the planet, he wants to beat the baddest man on the planet.
